One of them was taken to the hospital with minor injuries by the Closter Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue Corps following the northbound crash between Exits 1 & 2 shortly before 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 6.

A driver who was in the northbound lane estimated that the vehicle was going at least 80 miles an hour.

"I heard a loud screech!" another wrote. "Looked in mirror and the car was standing up/down, then flipped!"

Melissa Brown of North Bergen said her son was in the car with his girlfriend, who was driving, on their way to a prom.

In a post on the Daily Voice Bergen County Facebook page, Brown said she was grateful that they escaped unscathed and blasted those on social media who cited the witnesses' statements about speeding.

"They weren't driving like maniacs ok," she replied to one of the users. "u have no idea what happened so stay quiet n keep ur corny comments to ur self clown.

"look u low life garbage my son wasn't driving u dum f** k," Brown added. "as for me being a parent I'm a good parent u dum f**k

"I'm thanking god everyday they are alive ... to[o] bad it wasn't one of ur kids u clown."

Brown also said there are errors in this story but didn't provide specifics.

Palisades Interstate Parkway police interviewed witnesses and collected video as part of an ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash, which jammed northbound traffic.

The Mercedes Benz was towed from the scene and the debris was cleared after members of the Alpine Fire Department doused the flames.

Several drivers pulled onto the shoulder so emergency vehicles could pass.
